World Congress on Exercise is MedicineTM a Success

The Inaugural World Congress for Exercise is MedicineTM was held June 1 - 3, 2010 in Baltimore, Maryland.  Delegates from around the world came together to learn about the program and how to make the Exercise is Medicine movement global.  With a community walk lead by US Surgeon General Regina Benjamin, a performance by the Kangaroo Kids, and the global launch of Exercise is Medicine, the World Congress was a great success.  Many thanks to all who participated, we hope to see you at the second World Congress next year in Denver!

 

The Coca-Cola Foundation to Award $300,000 in Grants for Active Healthy Living Programs.

Submission Process Begins June 15

 

ATLANTA, June 15, 2010 – The Coca-Cola Foundation is seeking proposals for grants which will total $300,000 to support active healthy living initiatives focused on family-oriented physical activity and nutrition education programs in California, New York and Texas. The grant awards will range from $10,000 to $25,000 for each organization, totaling $100,000 per state. All grant proposals must be submitted by July 15, 2010, and grant awards will be announced by September 30, 2010.


"At The Coca-Cola Company, we have a longstanding commitment to improving access to community programs that foster physical activity, exercise and nutritional education," said Ingrid Saunders Jones, senior vice president of Global Community Connections for The Coca-Cola Company and chair of The Coca-Cola Foundation. "Our goal is to make a positive difference in communities by strengthening and creating healthy active lifestyle habits for families."


The Coca-Cola Foundation is seeking community partner organizations that operate active healthy living programs serving families and communities in California, New York or Texas, and have tax-exempt status under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code. To apply for a grant, organizations should complete the application that can be found at http://www.cocacolacommunityrequest.com/.

University of Kansas Medical Center and Rockhurt University Host Exercise is Medicine Month Conference

As Exercise is Medicine Month, May 2010 saw many exciting Exercise is Medicine events.  On May 14th, the University of Kansas Medical Center and Rockhurt University hosted a joint conference entitled Exercise is Medicine: A Prescription for Better Health.  World renown speakers including Frank Booth, David Poole, and Joe Donnelly shared their expertise regarding physical activity and exercise.  Also, Governor Mark Parkinson signed a proclamation declaring May as Exercise is Medicine month for the State of Kansas.  Financial support was provided by the Central States Chapter of ACSM, the University of Kansas Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science and the Rockhurst University Exercise and Sport Science Program. Thank you for your support of Exercise is Medicine and celebration of Exercise is Medicine Month!
