Lead by Example!

Talk about it.
Before assessing patients' physical activity levels, talk to them about it. Find out what sports they play or how often they work out. How did they do in their last competition? Have they switched gyms? Get to know their interests. Suggest activities appropriate to their age and skill level. Talking about exercise with your patients at each visit demonstrates just how important it is.

Encourage them without even a word.
Have fitness information available in the office such as a calendar of fitness events in the area, posters or brochures about the benefits of exercise, free passes to a local gym or fitness magazines in the waiting area.

Lead by Example.
Actions are stronger than words. Are you and your staff fit? Do you exercise regularly? Tell your patients about your workout routine so they can relate to your challenges too. If you're not currently active, sign up for the Exercise Email Tips for the Public series. Exercise for your own health and for your patients.

Inspire Action. Share Success Stories.
Do you talk about physical fitness with patients? Do you encourage patients to exercise? Is fitness information available in your office? Do you lead by example? Share it with us now!
