The new Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) Physical Activity Guidelines state that "people living with cancer can safely engage in moderate amounts of exercise while on active treatment or post completion of treatment. Clinicians should advise their patients to engage in exercise consistent with the recommendations outlined by the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)".
The document provides clinicians guidance around delivery models and exercise regimens for patients living with cancer at different points in the cancer journey, specifically:
- Benefits of specific types of exercise;
- Recommendations regarding pre-screening requirements for new referrals; and
- Safety concerns.
