The EIM Global Network is coordinated by the EIM Global Center (EIM-GC) in the U.S., which identifies key partners across the globe to establish an EIM Regional Center (EIM-RC) and EIM National Centers (EIM-NC). The EIM-RCs and EIM-NCs are hosted by partner institutions that might be, for example, a university, a professional association, or a healthcare system. As of May 2015, the EIM-GC has established EIM-RCs in the following:
- Latin America
- Southeast Asia
Each EIM-RC is responsible for providing guidance and coordination of EIM-related activities within its region and for supporting the establishment of EIM in other countries in the region. This approach has been highly successful in helping ‘spread’ the EIM initiative globally so that EIM (as of May 2015) has established a presence in 43 countries globally.
The EIM-GC has taken a multisectoral approach to the establishment of EIM-NCs in each country. Each EIM-NC is composed of an Advisory Board with representatives from their national primary care associations, other leading medical and healthcare associations, academic institutions and, when possible, the Ministry of Health or National Public Health Institute, and a national health fitness association. Close collaboration with media and industry partners and leveraging the expertise that they provide in key areas, such as public messaging, is also seen as critically important and highly encouraged.
