Creating a Standard in Health Care for All Providers

Systems-level change is necessary for physical activity (PA) assessment and counselling to truly become a standard in clinical care. This involves the integration of the Physical Activity Vital Sign (PAVS) into health history forms and/or the electronic medical record, and a systematic approach to PA assessment, advice and referral involving various members of the clinical team.

Such change requires the support of several entities, including leadership from health care professional associations. These organizations represent MDs, DOs, PAs, NPs, RNs, PTs, ATCs and others who are dedicated to delivering an optimal patient experience and positive health outcomes. Every member of the care team can play a role in integrating EIM into the practice.

EIM invites health care professional associations to join with EIM and call on their members to take action. Professional associations are uniquely positioned to provide member education and engage in advocacy campaigns to advance Exercise is Medicine®. EIM believes that partnering with like-minded organizations allows everyone to leverage their mutual resources and areas of expertise to improve patient and provider health through the promotion of active lifestyles.
