I’m not going to lie. 2020 was a rough year in many ways. In my work at the University of Kentucky, I often hear from people how hard it was to keep exercising or just keep moving around in general. Several reasons caused this lack of movement:
Now that many campuses are returning to some in-person classes, it is time to get moving again! I enjoy many wonderful things about my campus community. One of the greatest is the ability to move around, and move around with other people. All this walking is built right into the culture and nature of being on a campus, big or small.
The EIM On Campus Committee encourages you to get REUNITED IN MOVEMENT. Last year, we invited you to submit your video using “Sweat Off the Stress” as the theme to demonstrate ways your leadership team found to stay healthy physically and mentally during the pandemic. Now that we are getting back together, we invite you to show us how your EIM-OC leadership team is reuniting your campus in movement! Are you holding outdoor classes? Hosting lunch and learns? Getting teams together for 5Ks? We want to see all the ways in which you are moving together again in 2021. Get creative!
One thing I love about working with EIM-OC is that all the campuses are united in our mission to promote physical activity as a vital sign of health by making movement part of the daily campus culture, assessing PA at provider visits, providing tools and resources for healthy habits and connecting providers to fitness specialists by way of a referral system. So, not only are individual campuses reuniting, but all EIM-OC registered campuses are reuniting in movement in 2021.
