Despite toasty weather, on Tuesday, October 1st students, staff and faculty of Baldwin Wallace University met on campus for the 30-Day Walking Challenge Kick-Off event. Provost Stephen Stahl declared October as Exercise is Medicine On Campus month, and participants walked along the new Wellness Walking Path. Along the new path, Stinger logos are painted to lead the way. Baldwin Wallace (BW) Wellness and the Lifespan/Exercise is Medicine collaborated for this active event.
Individuals participating in the 30-Day Walking Challenge committed to walking at least one mile per day. By the end of October, they had walked a marathon of 30 miles! Throughout the month, there were several “pop-up” opportunities for participants to win gift cards or prizes by attending random group walks. All participants received BW Yellow Jacket Medals for anyone completing the Challenge.
Collectively, the participants tracked 3760.29 miles, which is an average of 2.2 miles per person per day!
One participant shared, “I wanted to thank you for developing the Walking Challenge of at least a mile a day for 30 days which is slightly over a marathon done in smaller chunks. I can state with 100% certainty that without the challenge I would not have walked over 30 miles in October. Having a trail marked out on campus made it easy to complete the challenge. I have hung the medal on my rear-view mirror representing a wellness accomplishment, but more importantly to inspire me to continue walking on a more regular basis. Thanks again for all you do for the health and wellness of the BW campus community!”
