EIM Month 2018

May is EIM Month - Let's get moving!

Exercise is Medicine® (EIM) encourages primary care physicians and other health care providers to include exercise when designing treatment plans for patients. EIM is committed to the belief that exercise and physical activity are integral to the prevention and treatment of chronic disease and should be regularly assessed as part of medical care. Along with the National Physical Activity Plan, EIM strives to make physical activity a “vital sign” that is routinely assessed at every patient interaction with a health care provider.

Each May the ACSM family celebrates Exercise is Medicine Month by uniting to advocate for the integration of physical activity within clinical care, connecting patients and providers wtih evidence-based fitness resources. Here are a few ways you can support EIM:

  • Read and share health care providers resources.
  • Register your college or university for the EIM on Campus program. Already registered? Challenge rival schools to register and see whosemascotismorephysicallyactiveduringEIMMonth (May), EIM on Campus Month (October), or both months for twice the fun!
  • Volunteer to serve on an EIM committee and share your expertise to advance EIM physical activity projects. Complete and return the interest form to be considered for a committee in 2019.
  • Earn the EIM Credential to demonstrate your ability to provide safe and effective exercise programs to patients with chronic diseases who are referred by their health care pro-viders.
  • Follow us on social media. Share your thoughts, find deas, or like/share/comment on EIM updates.
